Marijuana, alcohol, sex work and the government

Personally I don’t like drugs at all, have never done them and never will. but I can certainly see the reasoning for legalising marijuana.

Now, legalising sex work is a good idea because it would mean it could be regulated. There could be rules and inspections and health checks that would make such a lucrative industry a much safer one.

With taxes and fees the government could stand to make a lot of money from it. The big business could stand to make a lot of money from it because it would mean more lawyers, accountants, doctors and specialists with a specific sector to cater to, as well as the toys and the contraceptions etc.

Now there are a lot of reasons Marijuana should be legal, comparatively to alcohol it certainly should be. Alcohol to is mood and inhibition altering but it is also addictive and can kill you both from overdose and from withdrawal, whereas marijuana, aside from because of any allergic reactions or uncommon adverse effects, can not.

Marijuana can be highly beneficial for people suffering all manner of illnesses, not all of which marijuana is legally prescribed for.

However, Instances of cancer of the throat, lungs and mouth are just as high as (and in some cases higher than) those of cigarette smokers. But other illnesses usually associated with the toxins in cigarette smoke are, of course, less prevalent.

Back to the sex work, I mentioned that it along with alcohol and cigarettes, would be, not just safer, but profitable for those in power. Here is why it gets tricky. Marijuana is not profitable. Once it is legal those who want it can simply grow their own plants, share them, smoke them and they barely need to spend a dime to do so. What does the government stand to gain? You can’t tax it, you can’t profit off it in any way other than selling smoking implements and of course it is not the people in power who are going to do that, it is the lower and middle classes.

And we wouldn’t want them making any more money now would we…

Aside from all that, demonising it as they have done for years, they have made it a bad political decision. If they give it to us now after telling us it was bad all this time, that doesn’t reflect well on them.
